Paddy Pimblett's Advice: Avoid the Contender Series Rush "You need to test yourself against better opposition."

The Baddy’ Paddy Pimblett has been making waves in the MMA world for his candid advice to aspiring fighters. Maybe fighters should consider avoiding Dana White’s Contender Series. Recently, Pimblett shared his thoughts on how fighters should approach their journey to the UFC.

Paddy Pimblett on Why Fighters Should Skip the Contender Series Rush

Paddy Pimblett noted that many fighters are rushing into the UFC via the Contender Series with limited experience, often boasting undefeated records of five or six wins. However, Pimblett believes this approach can be detrimental, as it doesn’t adequately prepare fighters for the high level of competition in the UFC. In an interview, he explained:

“I think a lot of fighters should look at that and see how good I’ve done because there’s too many fighters now just getting to five and 0, six and 0 and Contender series… they need to develop more, you need to test yourself against better opposition.”

Pimblett’s own career serves as an example of the benefits of taking a more measured approach. He began his professional MMA journey at the age of 17 and initially declined UFC offers to focus on developing his skills in Cage Warriors. This decision allowed him to gain valuable experience and build a strong foundation before eventually joining the UFC in 2021.

“I’m very satisfied. I could have joined the UFC earlier, but I took my time, developed my skills, and it paid off. I’ve earned a good contract, paid off debts, and now I’m in a great position. I think fighters should learn from my path and not rush into the UFC without proper development.”
