NY Giants star Justin Tuck calls Frankie Edgar in Japan to wish him luck
We are not that far removed from a time when a speech by UFC lightweight champion was used to motivate the New York Jets. The team had fallen to 2-3 and coach Rex Ryan gave Edgar a call to speak to his team.
The talk must have worked because the Jets went on to defeat the Miami Dolphins after Edgar paid them a visit.
The tables have turned a bit for Edgar, as this time it was Edgar receiving the call. The champion, in Japan to defend his Lightweight title against Benson Henderson at UFC 144 received a call in his hotel from NY Giants defensive end Justin Tuck. Tuck, a member of the Super Bowl winning team from this season called to wish Edgar luck in his bout on Saturday.
“I really appreciate Justin reaching out to me in Japan,” Edgar said. “It means a lot to a kid from Jersey who grew up watching the Giants. He said they were all rooting for me tomorrow night. It definitely got me even more motivated.”
