Norman Parke Wants Diego Sanchez Fight, Dana White Says It’s Possible

Norman Parke

UFC lightweight competitor Norman Parke impressed in front of the Irish crowds at Fight Night 46 last night (Sat. July 19, 2014), as he earned the TKO win over formerly streaking Nayouki Kotani. The second round finish showed ‘Stormin’ working hard with elbows and punches on the mat, and his Japanese foe was unable to intelligently defend.

Seemingly buoyed by his performance, Parke went on to call out Diego Sanchez in the post fight interview with Dan Hardy, stating ‘Give me a top 20 opponent, I want Diego Sanchez, where you at punk?’ Sanchez was last seen giving a nightmare performance against Ross Pearson at Fight Night 42, as he was gifted the decision after three rounds of losing.

Known as one of the more exciting lightweights after fights with BJ Penn and Gilbert Melendez, Sanchez seems to have a target on his back nowadays. Parke expanded on his idea of fighting Sanchez, as he spoke at the post fight presser:

(Dana White)said, ‘Yeah, there’s a possibility.’ He said they’re looking at their options. That would be a great opportunity for me to headline or co-main event. The last time they were (In Belfast,Ireland) was 2007, so that’s a long time ago. That would be great if they could have an event there. That would be absolutely unbelievable.”

A win over Sanchez would certainly be the stepping stone that a young fighter like ‘Stormin’ would need to get recognized, and ‘The Nightmare’ has had trouble with taller, outside fighters in the past. There is also question about Sanchez’ lust to continue fighting, and maybe that has factored in to Parke’s call-out.

To say Sanchez seems punchy is an understatement, but maybe ‘Stormin’ just feels his style fits perfectly with the TUF veteran’s aggressive and wild nature. Would you be interested in seeing Parke vs. Sanchez as a main or co-main, or would ‘The Nightmare’ have to make a trip to fight pass for this scrap to happen?
