Nick Diaz: Georges St-Pierre Too Scared To Fight Me
The UFC welterweight division ushered in another new champion at UFC 201 this past Saturday July 30. Tyron Woodley claimed his biggest scalp to date in knocking out Robbie Lawler, and that devastating first round stoppage has given the division an interesting shape. Many expected a fight with Stephen Thompson or perhaps even Rory MacDonald to be on Woodley’s mind, but the reality was a far different story.
Taking on the microphone moments after his monumental win, ‘The Chosen One’ started talking about ‘money fights.’ In terms of the welterweight category, very few names fit in that mix. Former welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre and cult hero Nick Diaz were brought up in discussions. When talking about the latter, the Stockton brawler’s suspension was finally over as of yesterday, and he was already talking about a fight with Woodley.
MMA’s favorite bad boy urged the promotion to ‘make him an offer’ on the Woodley fight, but was singing quite a different tune in his interview with ESPN.
“We are gonna have to sit down and have a look at what the fans want to see. I’m on top of this game right now, there ain’t no giving me a shot, these people get a shot at me. I’m giving somebody a shot, I’m the guy to beat. We’ll see how (Woodley does). He just got the title, he needs a few fights, I’m just over here sitting back, like, I don’t need a fight.”
“There’s no reason for me to come and fight for fun, I don’t like to hurt people for fun. I like Tyron Woodley and Robbie Lawler, so can we talk about a reason why I should be out to get somebody? I’m not interested in fighting Robbie, he just lost, nothing against him but, I mean, that’s just not where I’m heading right now. We need to talk about these things, I’m not here in the media to talk about what I’m gonna do or not gonna do in the media. I’m just saying, I’m just, like, look, you know, I’m not suspended no more and all these guys are saying stuff about me. I’m like, look, what are you guys gonna do for me? I can’t help you. Maybe help yourself first and then we can talk.”
“I don’t see Georges St-Pierre coming back, he’s too scared to fight me, and now I don’t see any superstars. I don’t even wanna say anybody’s name, no one even knows who they are until I say their name and now they know who the guy is.”
Nick Diaz, ladies and gentlemen, Nick Diaz is BACK!
