Nicco Montano Hospitalized After Alleged Assault In Texas

Nicco Montano

Former UFC flyweight champion Nicco Montano has been hospitalized in Texas after an alleged assault.

There isn’t a ton of information about the alleged incident, but Montano detailed what she says happened to her.

“Tonight Justin Watson stood on my neck and stomped my face in then kept kicking me and shoving my hair into his fist and the corner of the bed frame,” Montano posted on her Instagram story. “I got away for a second to run down the hall (naked) screaming for my life as he tried to drag me back by my hair. Luckily someone from the hotel heard my screams and came to my rescue. I’m stuck in Texas, not knowing where he is and scared.”

“I’m in the hospital and I’m so lucky to have the technique and strength that I have to have defended myself.”

Nicco Montano Had Planned A Return To Fighting At Featherweight In 2022

Montano became the inaugural UFC women’s flyweight champion after winning Season 26 of The Ultimate Fighter over Roxanne Modafferi. She was supposed to fight Valentina Shevchenko for her first title defense but was stripped of the belt after missing weight.

Montano was supposed to fight Wu Yanan in July at a UFC Fight Night event, but the bout was canceled after she again missed weight. The UFC released her from the promotion shortly afterward.

It’s unclear what could be next for Montano’s professional MMA career, but the alleged assault is disturbing.

Montano was also recently in the headlines after publicly criticizing a documentary film made about her that briefly showed her nude. The film “Warrior Spirit” is about Montano’s story as the first Native American UFC champion and her series of harsh weight cuts while competing in the promotion.
