NAC Suspends Caio Magalhaes Six Months For Spitting Blood On Josh Samman
Middleweight Caio Magalhaes drew the ire of the MMA world when he disgracefully spit blood on his opponent Josh Samman after being submitted at July’s The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) 21 Finale from Las Vegas.
Magalhaes has been awaiting a potential punishment since, and at the Nevada Athletic Commission (NAC) hearing in Las Vegas today, he found out just what that would consist of. Magalhaes was handed a six-month suspension and 40 hours of community service by the commission, which he will reportedly complete by teaching Brazilian jiu-jitsu to children.
Sanctions such as these usually come with a monetary fine attached, but Magalhaes plead for and was given leniency in that sense after telling the commissioners that he had already “taken a loss” on his $20,000 fight purse for the loss by spending $17,000 on his training camp and other requirements.
Magalhaes insinuated that he had dinner with Samman and apologized according to a tweet from Bleacher Report’s Jeremy Botter:
Earlier, Magalhaes said he had dinner with @JoshSamman and buried the hatchet. Samman says that never happened. Perjury!

However, Samman was quick to reply that the alleged dinner absolutely did not happen, as Magalhaes simply approached him while he was eating to apologize for the transgression:
Absolutely I did not have dinner with someone that spit blood on me. https://t.co/YGGq8COyc9 — Josh Samman (@JoshSamman) October 29, 2015
