Here are the most gruesome UFC injuries in history. Check out the list of horrific injuries below and see how they occurred.
Anderson Silva vs. Chris Weidman II
At UFC 168, Anderson Silva had his rematch with Chis Weidman, who dethroned the middleweight king. During the first round, Weidman was successfully checking The Spider’s leg kicks.
In the first minute of the second round, we witnessed one of the most gruesome UFC injuries ever. Weidman checked another one of Silva’s kicks and this time, his leg snapped in half.
Fans were horrified as the former champ laid on the ground screaming. He would return over a year later, but he clearly wasn’t the same Anderson.
Chris Weidman vs. Uriah Hall
History has a funny way of repeating itself. Former champion, Chris Weidman found himself part of another one of the most gruesome UFC injuries ever.
Weidman took on Uriah Hall at UFC 261. The very first kick Chris threw was perfectly checked, which resulted in his leg snapping.
It was the exact same injury that happened to Anderson Silva in their fight eight years ago.
Frank Mir vs. Antonio “Minotauro” Nogueira II
In an interim heavyweight title fight at UFC 140, Minotauro was looking to even the score against Frank Mir. Early on, Nogueira was getting the better of Mir in striking and almost finished the former champion.
However, Frank pulled off a slick grappling counter and locked on a tight kimura on Minotauro. The former Pride champion refused to tap and Mir was forced to break his arm.
This was the second time Mir had won a fight by breaking an opponent’s limb after snapping Tim Sylvia’s arm. Frank earned his second world title in one of the most brutal finishes in UFC history.
Jon Jones vs. Chael Sonnen
At UFC 159, we witnessed one of the most unassuming gruesome UFC injuries in history. Jon Jones seemingly made easy work of his replacement opponent Chael Sonnen.
However, Jones was noticeably limping after the fight. Replace cameras showed the champion completely broke his toe through the skin. Once Jones looked down and saw the bone, the adrenaline wore off and he nearly fainted.
If Jon somehow wasn’t able to continue the fight, we would’ve had Chael Sonnen as light-heavyweight champion.
Joanna Jedrzejczyk vs. Weili Zhang
Last up on the most gruesome UFC injuries ever is Joanna Jedrzejczyk vs. Weili Zhang. These two champions had a FOTY candidate war.
By the fifth round, Joanna looked almost unrecognizable from the damage she sustained. A giant hematoma formed on her head that doubled the size of her skull.
After the fight, Joanna had to spend time in the hospital to let the swelling in her head go down before traveling.
