Mike Pierce: Nick Diaz is ‘entertaining like Honey Boo-Boo’

UFC Welterweight Mike Pierce is a man that gets little to no publicity in the stacked 170 lb. division. However, he is a fighter that never seems to go away and puts on close battles each time out to the Octagon. He is also an active fighter in a time when many are not, having fought three times in 2012. His first bout was a controversial loss to Josh Koscheck that he thought he had won, but he rebounded nicely by beating Carlos Eduardo Rocha and then knocking Aaron Simpson out cold last month. Pierce is not known for his trash talk, but he may be seeing the benefits it can garner for fighters in today’s UFC. Speaking to Joeshowradio.com on the topic of the rumored Koscheck-Nick Diaz fight, Pierce recently offered some interesting words:

“I’m not in love with either of the guys, but Koscheck is a guy I’ve already fought once, and he’s definitely a good fighter and everything. I wouldn’t take that away from him. Maybe it’s just the way I see Nick interact with the media. I look at him and shake my head like, ‘What the hell?’ I guess that’s part of the fun with him is the way he responds to certain things, and the antics that he pulls in the Octagon. It’s entertaining like the Jersey Shore is entertaining or Honey Boo Boo is entertaining. It’s a freaking train wreck, yeah, of course it’s going to get ratings and everything and people are going to talk about it, but it’s not my preference, to be honest.”

Pierce has gone out on a limb to criticize the antics of Diaz, who is arguably the UFC’s most polarizing fighter despite rarely fighting. Pierce also is looking to fight the top tier Welterweights, stating he is not going anywhere. He mentioned a bout with Jake Ellenberger in the interview, which could be a great fight. Pierce is always tough to put down, and could make some waves at 170 next year if given the right opportunities. Perhaps he thinks that this will be sped up a bit by opening his mouth on the airwaves. In a stacked division, anything that could further your cause should probably be utilized, only time will tell if it gains a high-profile bout for Pierce.
