Michael Chandler Thinks Jose Aldo Has Too Much Power For Anthony Pettis

Jose Aldo and Anthony Pettis would appear to be on a collision course in the wake of their most recent wins. Aldo put another notch on his belt by decisioning Ricardo Lamas at UFC 169 and Pettis made good on his opportunity at 164 by submitting Ben Henderson in one for the lightweight title.

Everybody and their dogs seem to have an opinion on Aldo vs. Pettis, and it doesn’t stop with fans and pundits. Former Bellator lightweight boss Michael Chandler gave his two cents on the potential superfight, as he spoke with MMAFighting.com:

“Between the two guys, they’re both really good strikers. I think Aldo just hits harder. I think he’s got a better opportunity to knock people out more than Pettis. I think Pettis has more of that … he’s flashy and he’s good, I think he can hit you from any angle, he mixes it up really well, but Aldo’s strikes are a lot harder than Anthony Pettis, I think. I pick Aldo in that fight.”

Aldo vs. Pettis has the potential to be one of the biggest fights ever, and has caused plenty of debate so far. The fight, yet to even be scheduled, has not been out of the media since Aldo’s decisive win at 169. In fact, I don’t even think it was being talked about this much when the two were booked to fight at UFC 163.

The main difference now is that ‘Showtime’ is a title holder, and by the looks of things Aldo may vacate his long held FW strap to challenge for the divisional title at 155. It would seem that this fight is building so much momentum in it’s early stages of (non) being that it could dwarf Silva vs. Weidman II in PPV sales.

The magnitude of heat that this fight would get, if booked, is off the scale. A recent poll on Lowkick revealed that around half of you feel like Aldo would win, and the other half feel that Pettis would beat ‘Scarface’ if the two met at Lightweight.

Dana White likes the fight and wants Mendes vs. Swanson for the vacated Featherweight crown, Aldo wants the fight, Pettis has said he would fight Aldo at any weight; it just seems like this fight is so close that I can taste my $5.
