Michael Chandler Claims Dustin Poirier ‘Quit’ At UFC 269

Michael Chandler sent out a slew of tweets in the aftermath of UFC 269, many of which took aim at Dustin Poirier for quitting against Charles Oliveira.

‘The Diamond’ fell short for a second time in a lightweight title fight, suffering a third-round submission loss to the defending 155lb king this past weekend.

Immediately after the fight, Chandler took to social media to compare his loss against ‘Do Bronx’ to the one Poirier had just suffered, he wrote.

“I would never ever quit…I went out on my shield after being separated from consciousness, congrats to Oliveira… #ufc269”

“The way I see it…the whole world wants to see me rematch 2 out of the 3 fights I’ve had in the @UFC… that’s how you come in and make a statement,” Chandler added. “I’d never QUIT. Congrats to Oliveira …punch your ticket with Gaethje this summer and I’ll see you at the end of 2022 #UFC269

Chandler believes that Poirier may have blown his chance of a lucrative fourth fight with Conor McGregor.

“Why would the biggest name in the sport come back and fight a guy who QUIT over a guy who is the second most electrifying guy in the division? #analystfail #UFC269”

Michael Chandler’s Wild UFC Ride

The former 3x Bellator champion joined the UFC in 2020 and made an impressive debut when he knocked out Dan Hooker inside one round at UFC 257 earlier this year.

That win earned Chandler a shot at the lightweight title against Charles Oliveira. The 35-year-old dominated ‘Do Bronx’ in the first frame before being quickly stopped himself in the second stanza.

Last time out, Chandler went to war for three rounds with Justin Gaethje in a Fight of the Year contender, which he ultimately lost via a unanimous decision.

As of late, Chandler has been angling for a fight with McGregor who is expected to return to the Octagon in the summer months of 2022.
