Michael Bisping Is The ‘Only Middleweight That’s Completely Clean’
Veteran middleweight Michael “The Count” Bisping has long been an advocate for stricter drug testing, repeatedly speaking out on the issue.
Having faced multiple performance-enhancing-drug (PEDs) offenders in his career, Bisping has had his fair share of experience with the issue, and it turns out that the 185-pound division is no stranger to PEDs either.
No. 3-ranked Vitor Belfort has tested positive multiple times, and former champion Anderson Silva, who Bisping outpointed last February, served a year-long suspension throughout 2015 for failing a drug test.
Currently, former title challenger Lyoto Machida was recently pulled from a schedule bout after testing positive for a banned substance, and Yoel Romero is on suspension for the very same reason.
At this point, Bisping feels as if may be the only ‘clean’ middleweight competing:
“The more and more things – the more time that passes – the more I think that I’m the only middleweight that’s completely clean, and I’ve done that throughout my career,” Bisping told MMAJunkie. “I’ve taken God knows how many drug tests. (With) every single one, there hasn’t been even a hint of suspicion in any one of my tests.
“And we just see these legends falling – left, right and center.”
At the end of the day, “The Count” isn’t looking to ‘bully’ a fighter while he’s down, but simply he’s looking out for himself in the crazy world of mixed martial arts:
“I don’t want to be the guy that goes in about this all the time,” he said. “I know I sound like a broken record. I know people are probably sick of hearing me talk about it.
” … I don’t want to kick anybody while they’re down. That’s not how I get my satisfaction. I’m just trying to do myself and look after my family the best way I know how.”
Do you hold any truth in Bisping’s bold claims?
