Featherweights Maximo Blanco (12-6-1, 1 NC) and Mike de la Torre (13-5, 1 NC) kicked off the main card of The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) 22 event on July 12, 2015 in Las Vegas. Blanco had won his last two bouts, while de la Torre earned a knockout victory in his last fight.

Blanco threw a high kick, which was blocked by Torre. “Maxi” then decked “El Cucuy” with a punch to the chin. Before de la Torre could defend himself, referee Yves Lavigne stopped the fight as “El Cucuy” was attempting a takedown.

De la Torre immediately protested the stoppage. Color commentator Brian Stann said he felt “El Cucuy” could’ve worked his way back in the fight if he was given a chance. Jon Anik agreed saying, “it seemed as if de la Torre had recovered before he hit the canvas.”
