Max Holloway Sweeps Scorecards In Win Over Ricardo Lamas

Two top featherweight contenders did battle at The Forum in Inglewood, CA for UFC 199. The 145-pound stalwarts who shared the Octagon were Max Holloway (16-3) and Ricardo Lamas (16-5).

“Blessed” walked away with his ninth straight win.

Both men wasted little time meeting in the center of the Octagon. Lamas got things going with a few leg kicks. Holloway threw some punches, which were blocked. “Blessed” had his opponent backing up towards the cage. He swarmed “The Bully” and landed a knee to the body. Lamas shot in for a takedown, but Holloway stuffed it. Lamas went for another single leg takedown, but Holloway kept his balance and thwarted the attempt. A wheel kick found the mark for “Blessed” and the round came to a close.

Holloway blocked a high kick at the start of the second stanza. A thudding leg kick landed for “The Bully.” Holloway tagged Lamas with a right hand and jumped on his opponent. Lamas answered with a one-two combination. “The Bully” went for a takedown, but “Blessed” stuffed it and earned top control. Lamas ate a kick to the body on his way back up. Holloway caught Lamas in a choke position, but “The Bully” escaped while giving up his back. “Blessed” nailed his opponent with an elbow as round two ended.

The final round began and Lamas whiffed a wheel kick over a minute in. A left hand followed by a leg kick found the target for “The Bully.” Lamas connected with a left hook. The two engaged in a clinch and Holloway landed a knee to the body. “Blessed” pressured Lamas against the fence with strikes. With 10 seconds remaining, Holloway challenged Lamas to a brawl. The two exchanged wildly with “Blessed” getting the better of his opponent.

All three judges scored the bout for Holloway.

Final Result: Max Holloway def. Ricardo Lamas via unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27)
