Max Holloway Opens Up On His Future At Featherweight
Max Holloway opens up on what his future holds as the UFC featherweight champion.
Holloway is currently making the move to a new weight class.
The UFC champ is slated to take on Dustin Poirier for the interim lightweight championship in the headliner of the UFC 236 pay-per-view event. Fight fans have been wondering what the outcome of this fight will mean for the featherweight division should Holloway win.
Holloway still has some notable opponents to fight in the 145-pound division, but with him having the chance to become a two-division champ, it makes things unclear. While doing a recent interview, Holloway made it known that he doesn’t want to give up the featherweight belt.
“First things first, we’ve got Dustin, and then I keep hearing the one after this is maybe Khabib in September,” Holloway told MMAWeekly. “I’m really going to have to sit down and talk to the UFC about that. I want to figure it out. A king defends his throne. We’ll sit down with the UFC after this fight, we’ll see how it goes first. All my attention is on Dustin for sure.
“Everybody is talking about me being the fourth person that might be able to be the simultaneous [two-division champion], but I want to be the champ that holds both and defends both. That’s always the end game.”
The UFC 236 pay-per-view event is set to take place on Saturday, April 13, 2019, at the State Farm Arena in Atlanta, Georgia.
