Matt Hamill Inducted Into The US National Wrestling Hall Of Fame
News has recently broken that Matt Hamill a graduate of RIT has been inducted into the US National Wrestling Hall of Fame. Hamill is a three-time NCAA Division III National Champion who competed on The Ultimate Fighter 3. Hamill’s life story as a deaf athlete was portrayed in the movie The Hammer. His life story is nothing short of extraordinary.
Matt Hamill’s new status as a National Wrestling Hall of Famer will hopefully send a very positive message to the Olympic Committee. Wrestling is now one of the three sports placed on the shortlist for the 2020 and 2024 Olympic games. The other sports included in the short list are squash and baseball/softball. A final vote in September by the entire IOC General Assembly in Buenos Aires will determine which one of these sports will be included in the 2020 and 2024 Olympics.
During his MMA career, Hamill conquered Tito Ortiz, Mark Munoz, Tim Boetsch and Kieth Jardine. After a shortlived retirement, Hamill came back to the octagon and scored a UD win over Roger Hollett at UFC 152.
As I mentioned, Wrestling really needs all the backing it can get at the moment. Olympic’s and America’s most loved and traditional of sports is at risk of being a thing of the past.
Congratulations to Matt Hamill from the Lowkick community!
