Top 10-ranked UFC welterweight Matt Brown was supposed to face fan favorite Nate Diaz at July 11’s packed UFC 189 pay-per-view from Las Vegas, but “The Immortal” took to social media last week to confirm that the bout fell apart after the Stockton bad boy complained that he never signed on to face him.

Today, however, Brown has a new opponent.

It was announced on tonight’s “America’s Pregame” on FOX Sports 1 that Brown will instead take on surging welterweight Tim “Dirty Bird” Means at UFC 189.

“The Immortal” dropped his two most recent bouts to the top of the division, losing a one-sided decision to the wrestling of former champion Johny Hendricks at UFC 185 in March after a hard-fought five round decision loss to current champion Robbie Lawler at UFC on FOX 12 last July.

The snide erased a seven-fight win streak that had Brown being talked about for a title shot.

Most of his wins during his streak came over mid-level competition, and while Means is presently unranked, his four-fight win streak has him on the verge of being a force in quite possibly the UFC’s most stacked division.

Displaying a smooth, fluid striking style coupled with a dangerous ground game, Means overall skillset was on full display when he submitted the gritty but outclassed George Sullivan on the preliminary card of last Saturday’s (April 18, 2015) UFC on FOX 15 from Newark, New Jersey.

He finished The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) 19 finalist Dhiego Lima via TKO in his previous bout at February 28’s UFC 184, and is now set to take on his first truly elite opponent in the Octagon.

Means will meet an incredibly angry “Immortal” who’s looking to get back on track, and if he can pass that test, he’ll undoubtedly be ready to prove himself against the top of the 170-pound talent heap.

It just won’t be easy. Who is your pick to come out on top in this pivotal welterweight scrap?
