Mark Munoz Wants Michael Bisping, Will Take Any Top 10 Fighter

Mark Munoz has had a pretty rough time since his 2011 win over Chris Leben. ‘The Filipino Wrecking Machine’ was on a four fight win streak after beating ‘The Crippler’ by TKO, and was being talked about in conversations about title shots; Until he faced Chris Weidman in July 2012.

The current Middleweight champion destroyed Munoz, knocking him out in the second round with a vicious elbow and punches. Munoz went in to a deep state of depression and weight gain, but returned a year later with a convincing decision win over Tim Boetsch at UFC 162.

Munoz was unfortunate to welcome Lyoto Machida to the Middleweight class, and suffered a first round KO by heads kick. So now Munoz needs to win big if he ever wants to get a title shot, whom should he face next? The former collegiate wrestlers says that ‘The Count’ is who he wants to fight:

“”I’ve always wanted Michael Bisping,” said Munoz while talking to MMAFighting.com “not because I have any personal issues or beef with him, but he’s always been at the top. We were supposed to fight, and I know Kennedy has been calling him out and wants to fight him, but I feel we’ve got unfinished business to take care of.”

There was talk of a Munoz/Bisping showdown before the fight with Boetsch at UFC 162, and also before the fight with Machida. I think it makes for a great match up stylistically, and Munoz feels it would be the boost he needs to kick start his career:

“I think he’s been a top, perennial contender for a long time, and a win over him would definitely get me back in the mix. So, he’s there. But really, I’d fight anybody in the top 10. For me, I’m a competitor. I want to get to that top. I want that title shot.”

I’d like to see Munoz do well, but at 36 his title shot may have counted on a win over Chris Weidman. That being said, Munoz is a threat to anyone with his solid wrestling and brutal g ‘n’ p style. If there is enough time for Munoz to make another title run, Bisping is certainly a great name to have on your resume. A loss to ‘The Count’ could well spell the end of ‘The Filipino Wrecking Machine’ as a force in MMA.
