Mark Hunt vs. Stipe Miocic Rumored For Australia Card This May
Mark Hunt saved the UFC’s first-ever event on Mexican soil by failing in for an injured Cain Velasquez against Fabricio Werdum at November 15, 2014’s UFC 180 pay-per-view (PPV), and it appears that the promotion may reward him by scheduling his next fight for his home country of Australia.
A report has surfaced tonight that Hunt will meet Stipe Miocic in the main event of an upcoming May 10 UFC Fight Night event from the Adelaide Entertainment Centre in Adelaide, Australia.
Combat Press was the first to break the news, which has yet to be officially confirmed. The UFC Fight Night card would conceivably air on Fight Pass on May 9 in the United States.
Hunt was finished by a vicious knee from “Vai Cavalo” at UFC 180 after making a short turnaround from his UFC Fight Night 52 win over Roy Nelson. The fan favorite also fought Antonio “Bigfoot” Silva in their now-classic brawl at 2013’s UFC Fight Night 33.
He’s probably by far the most revered fighter with a 1-2-1 record in his last four (sorry, Nick Diaz is 1-3). He’ll face a difficult challenge in the Cleveland-born Miocic, who would come in off of a brutal loss to former champion Junior do Santos at last December’s UFC on FOX 13.
The winner would undoubtedly find himself back in title contention in the contender-hungry heavyweight landscape (that is, if the belt ever gets defended), and any match-up featuring Hunt will be a huge ticket in his native land.
Who is your pick to win this potentially huge slugfest?
