Lyoto Machida is one of the most prolific fighters in UFC history. “The Dragon” has spent most of his time in the UFC at light heavyweight, and is a former 205-pound champion.

After suffering a loss to Phil Davis at UFC 163 back in August 2013, Machida decided it was time to drop down to 185 pounds and test himself against the world’s best middleweights. “The Dragon” quickly proved that he would be a force in his new division when he knocked out Mark Munoz with a devastating head kick at UFC Fight Night 30 in October 2013. Machida showed that he was not only faster at the lighter weight, but also still possessed knockout power.

The Brazilian then took on top contender Gegard Mousasi at UFC Fight Night 36 in February 2014. Machida was able to neutralize Mousasi’s attack and dominate the fight, earning a decision and a crack at middleweight gold.

“The Dragon” suffered his first loss at 185 pounds to current champion Chris Weidman at UFC 175 last July, but was able to come on strong in the later rounds, almost stealing the belt in the process. Machida gained the respect of many that night and was able to prove that can still hang with the elite.

The former UFC champ will look to get back on track this weekend (Saturday, December 20, 2014) when he takes on No. 10-ranked C.B Dollaway in the main event of UFC Fight Night 58 from Barueri, Brazil. Although a win, may not get “The Dragon” another title shot just yet, it will surely lead him to a big name fight and keep him floating around the top of the crowded middleweight rankings.

Ultimately, the Brazilian wants the gold strapped around his waist once again. Will he secure another crack at Weidman in the near future? If he does, will he be able to stop the young and hungry champion?
