Luke Rockhold: Fabricio Werdum Is A Delusional Coward

It’s been yet another crazy week of MMA (mixed martial arts) hype and coverage for the world’s largest fight promotion, as UFC 188 has been ramping up. The heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez will hope to come back from a long injury stint, and will face Brazilian grappler and interim kingpin Fabricio Werdum in Mexico City. Home advantage to the champ Velasquez, but the trash talking has been all in favor of ‘Vai Cavalo’.

The Kings MMA interim champion recently blasted ‘CV’, claiming the hometown favorite was in fact an American, and not a Mexican. This obviously angered Cain, and fellow countryman Gilbert Melendez was quick to jump to Velasquez’s defense in regards to the comments made by Werdum. Coupled with a remarkable steroid accusation by Ben Rothwell, it’s been a pretty rough week for Velasquez, at least as far as trash talking is involved.

Never one to talk too much pre-fight, the Mexican champ has stayed focused and not really given too much away, his AKA (American Kickboxing Academy) team mate and midlleweight title contender Luke Rockhold is not a reserved though, as he blasts Fabricio Werdum as a ‘fake coward’ in the above interview with Ariel Helwani of MMAFighting.com:

‘We all see how fake Werdum is, he tries to be all buddy-buddy with us and then he is taking jabs in private like that. He pissed off the champ, that’s not a good place to be in. I saw that (he talked smack about me). Werdum is just a delusional, self-absorbed fake champ. He’s a coward, a fake. If I ever had to resort to butt-scooting to win a fight, I’d retire and go hide under a rock. Werdum is just that kind of guy, I’ve never ad a liking for him. I just see Cain as a better fighter everywhere, how does he expect to take Cain down? He is gonna put pressure on Fabricio that he’s never felt.’

Time will tell if Werdum’s chances truly are that small, but the percentage are picking the champion of the division to remain just that. The Brazilian has obviously made a few enemies on his trip to Mexico, as the partisan crowd jeered the interim boss with boos during the UFC 188 open workouts.

Is anyone else getting the impression that Werdum signed his own death warrant by trashing the champ’s nationality?
