Luke Rockhold: ‘Clumsy’ Chris Weidman Is JV & I’m Varsity
One of the most highly anticipated middleweight bouts in Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) history will take place at UFC 194 on Dec. 12, 2015. Reigning UFC 185-pound title holder Chris Weidman (13-0) will put his gold and undefeated record at stake when he meets Luke Rockhold (14-2) inside the Octagon.
The two middleweights haven’t minced words leading up to their showdown in Las Vegas. The current champion said it will be “fun” to beat up Rockhold, while the challenger fired back by saying Weidman’s last opponent, Vitor Belfort was an “old lion with his balls cut off.”
If you expected the war of words to cool down, you’ve got another thing coming. Rockhold spoke with Sherdog.com to explain why he feels he is a better fighter than Weidman:
“I’m faster than him, I’m more technical, I’ve got more weapons. He’s slow, he’s a little uncoordinated with his kicks, he’s a little clumsy. I’m gonna take advantage of every opportunity he gives me and I’m gonna take this fight and bring back home another belt at AKA.”
We’re still three months away from the big middleweight title showdown, but the former Strikeforce 185-pound kingpin is counting on having his hand raised. So much so, that he’s even talking about a rematch and a possible third fight with the Serra-Longo Fight Team standout:
“I think me and Weidman are above the rest. I think I’m gonna be like his big brother for his whole career after this fight. He’s gonna be JV, I’m gonna be varsity and I’m gonna frickin rule the division. That’s the way I see it.”
Rockhold wasn’t solely throwing shade at the middleweight king. He gave Weidman his due when it comes to one aspect of the fight game:
“I think he’s a very tough guy, I think he’s better than the rest.”
