LowKick.com Community MMA Rankings for April 20th

5626517217 f23be400beFollowing his impressive victory over Mauricio “Shogun” Rua at UFC 128, Jon Jones stormed into the LowKick.com Community P4P Rankings right into the 4th place, slightly behind the UFC Featherweight Champion Jose Aldo. Fedor Emelianenko continued his slide down, currently occupying the 10th spot in the P4P rankings.

Next weekend’s UFC 129 main card will feature three high profile fights, with GSP vs. Shields, Aldo vs. Hominick and Couture vs. Machida all set to change the current Top 10 formations.

Next rankings window will be re-opened on March 3rd, three days after the mentioned above UFC 129 fight card, and closed on March 23rd, six days before UFC 130: Edgar vs. Maynard III.

And of course, Hector Lombard and Eddie Alvarez are no longer the only ranked non-ZUFFA fighters from Lightweight to Heavyweight. Thanks to the victory over Lyle Beerbohm, Shinya Aoki returned to the Lightweight Top 10 rankings.

UFC Middleweight Champion Anderson Silva continued to occupy the 1st spot in LowKick.com Community P4P Rankings, with Georges St. Pierre and Jose Aldo below “The Spider” in Top 3. St. Pierre’s convincing victory over Jake Shields next weekend could catapult the French-Canadian back to the top, where he reigned supreme before Silva’s triumph over Vitor Belfort at UFC 126.

Heavyweight

Four out of five Top 5 ranked Heavyweights will meet in June, with Alistair Overeem facing Fabricio Werdum in the 1/4 Final of the Strikeforce Heavyweight GP, and the fellow TUF 13 coaches Brock Lesnar and Junior Dos Santos going toe-to-toe at the main event of UFC 131. Until then, the Top 10 Heavyweights picture is not expected to change in its higher echelons.

Light Heavyweight

Despite the defeat against Jon Jones at UFC 128, former UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Mauricio “Shogun” Rua continues to receive credit from fans, occupying the 2nd position in LowKick.com Community MMA Rankings. #1 Contender Rashad Evans is third slightly behind Rua, as Rampage Jackson and next weekend’s UFC 129 main card participant Lyoto Machida close down the Top 5.

Middleweight

Anderson Silva and Yushin Okami will meet at UFC: Rio for the UFC Middleweight Title. Including Okami, five out of current Top 10 Middleweights already fought Anderson Silva, with only Damian Maia managing to take the fight to Decision. The next big fight at the UFC Middleweight division will feature #10 ranked Brian Stann, and the former Sengoku Middleweight Champion Jorge Santiago. The fight will take place at UFC 130 on May 28th.

Welterweight

Diego Sanchez is still absent from the LowKick.com Community MMA Welterweight rankings, even despite the victory over #10 ranked Martin Kampmann. Nick Diaz‘s victory over Paul Daley (#9) didn’t change a lot in Top 5 picture, as Jake Shields and Jon Fitch are behind the eternal leader Georges St. Pierre. GSP and Shields will meet next weekend, at the main event of UFC 129 in Toronto, Canada.

Lightweight

Gilbert Melendez‘s excellent performance at Strikeforce: Diaz vs. Daley earned him a #3 spot in this edition of the Rankings, as the former WEC Lightweight Champ Anthony Pettis moved down to 4th. Shinya Aoki‘s victory on the same card brought the Japanese legend back to the Top 10, after three long months of absence. The collision between Frankie Edgar and Gray Maynard for the UFC Lightweight title will take place next month on May 28th.
