How’s your training going, 5 days before the fight? And what is your gameplan for Jacare?
The training is perfect. Had a great training camp at Greg Jackson‘s. Trained with a whole bunch of black belts, helping me preparing for Jacare. I’m not going to tell you anything about my gameplan, ‘coz it’s a secret. But the general idea is not to be underneath him, punch him in the face and walk out with a KO victory.
Do you see in this fight an opportunity to prove your skills as a Mixed Martial Artist, and that you’re one of the top 185’ers in the World?
Yeah, every fight is a big fight, and every fight you are going there to prove that you’re a little bit better than you were before. I have a lot of respect for Jacare, but I will walk there and prove that I’m in whole another level than him.
What part your military background plays in preparations for the fight, and during the fight itself?
The military made me more disciplined in how I approach my training, and how I prepare for the fights. Not staying up late, bringing the best guys… I have a very regimented routine for preparation. And I learned it from the military, being a soldier translates very well in being a professional fighter.
You are 1-1 with Mayhem Miller. Would you like to get a rubber match against him at some point?
Yeah, I think it could be a really exciting fight. If I am correct, Jason is currently 1-1 in Strikeforce, so I’m not sure if it means he’s a number one contender. I know that Strikeforce are going to do a tournament to see who the number one contender is. I’m sure the fight between Jason and I would be very exciting.
Latest addition to the Strikeforce Heavyweight roster Sergei Kharitonov, served in the Russian Airborne. What do you think about fighting someone with the similar Military background?
(Laughs) I think we both would be respectful for each other. But Ground Forces are much tougher than the Air Force.
Alright. Any message to Jacare or your fans, regarding August 21st?
I would ask my fans to tune in on August 21st, when I knock out Jacare. It’s going to be an awesome fight.
