Louis Gaudinot Suspended Six Months By UFC For Banned Diuretics

Diuretics have been showing up in MMA news quite a bit as of late, as former Pride champion Wanderlei Silva admitted that he took them to deal with water retention in his injured wrist during a NSAC hearing this week.

And now the dangerous drug has put a black eye on yet another fighter’s record. UFC flyweight Louis Gaudinot has been suspended six months for failing a drug test for banned diuretics following his UFC Fight Night 37 win over Phil Harris in London.

Former The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) veteran Gaudinot won the fight with an impressive first round submission, but the result has now been changed to a No Contest. Harris revealed the news on Twitter:

Englishman Harris was released by the UFC for his lackluster effort, but has now been re-signed to face tough Irish flyweight Neil Seery at July’s UFC Fight Night 46 from Dublin.

The terms of Gaudinot’s suspension were handed down by the UFC directly, as no official MMA commission regulated the show overseas. He’ll be allowed to return to action on September 8, but MMAJunkie.com reported that Gaudinot is required to turn in a clean drug test before stepping back into the cage.

With two losses and one No Contest in his last four UFC bouts, the pressure is going to weigh heavily upon Gaudinot to win his next fight. He does have the advantage of fighting in the UFC’s least stacked division of flyweight.

But if he needs diuretics in order to make the class’s 125-pound weight limit, his days in the Octagon could be numbered.
