Khabib Nurmagomedov Pounds Out Darrell Horcher In Return
UFC on FOX 19 was a huge opportunity for Darrell Horcher (12-2). The former Bellator lightweight replaced Tony Ferguson to face a returning Khabib Nurmagomedov (23-0). An upset win over the number two ranked lightweight would’ve likely turned the division upside down.
Unfortunately for “The Saint,” that scenario wasn’t meant to be.
“The Eagle” missed a hook early. Horcher got in a leg kick. Nurmagomedov looked a bit hasty at the start of the fight. Horcher brushed off a takedown attempt. A huge takedown was later achieved by “The Eagle.” The Russian moved to side control and rained down elbows. “The Saint” gave up his back and Nurmagomedov landed some stiff punches to end the round.
The second stanza saw “The Eagle” go for a takedown immediately. Horcher’s back was against the fence and he was tossed down to the canvas. Nurmagomedov landed some punches in side control. “”The Eagle” landed multiple punches with a mounted crucifix. Nurmagomedov took the back of Horcher and kept landing shots until the fight was stopped.
Despite the loss, Horcher showed tremendous heart and was applauded as Nurmagomedov raised his hand.
