Kayla Harrison could be set for an interim UFC women’s bantamweight title fight in 2025, if her manager Ali Abdelaziz is to be believed.

As we know, Kayla Harrison is the most serious available threat to Julianna Pena‘s belt. Unfortunately, it doesn’t seem as if we’re going to get that fight anytime soon. There have been rumors of an injury sustained by Pena recently and if that turns out to be true, it’s not clear as to when the Harrison bout would happen.

In a recent interview, however, her manager Ali Abdelaziz suggested that we could see Kayla Harrison in an interim championship fight at some point this year.

Kayla Harrison set for interim title fight?

“This is what I was being told. Julianna Peña, if she’s not ready to fight Kayla, she might have some health problem, it’s going to be an interim title,” Ali Abdelaziz told MMA Junkie. “Hundred percent this is what’s going to happen. And the UFC is just not going to hold the division because somebody don’t want to fight or are injured.”

For a lot of fans and pundits, Kayla Harrison would be the favorite if she did wind up fighting Julianna Pena. At the same time, the two-time champion has proven before that she’s more than capable of upsetting the odds. Either way, though, you could argue that it’s the biggest fight that can be made in women’s mixed martial arts.

The 34-year-old Harrison is 2-0 since arriving in the UFC with both of those victories coming in 2024. With one finish and one decision triumph, she’s already starting to look like one of the most fascinating contenders in the entire promotion.

Hopefully, we won’t need an interim title fight – but if it does happen, who do you think she should face?
