Josh Barnett vs. Travis Browne Booked For UFC 168

5626581057 dc15229bb4 zAs if it wasn’t already a stacked enough card, UFC 168 has added a blockbuster Heavyweight matchup in the form of Josh Barnett vs. Travis Browne. The exciting tilt will join the anticipated rematch between Chris Weidman and Anderson Silva and the Ronda Rousey vs. Miesha Tate title fight to present one of the finest UFC cards ever put together on paper.

The Las Vegas Review Journal was on hand to break the news earlier today.

For Barnett, it’s a great way to keep the momentum of his recent UFC return running. He was last seen dismantling Frank Mir in the co-main event of UFC 164 with an absolutely vicious display of Muay Thai. “The Warmaster” is looking to fight some big names in the Octagon, and he just got one in Browne.

For the Hawaiian-born Browne, Barnett is the perfect opponent to prove he belongs with the divisional elite. After weathering an early storm against Alistair Overeem in the co-main event of UFC Fight Night 26 from Boston, Browne came back to knock out “The Demolition Man” with a well-placed front kick. Browne looks like he’s ready to fight anyone, and Barnett will be a true test of his readiness.

This fight has all the makings of a war. I’d give the early edge on the feet to Browne, but Barnett’s standup is no doubt underrated. Obviously Barnett has a huge advantage on the ground in terms of submission, but Browne’s never tapped out. UFC 168 is shaping up to be one of the best year-ending spectacles ever produced by the UFC. Who is your early pick to win this pivotal Heavyweight match?
