Jose Aldo Wants Rematch With Conor McGregor Following UFC 194
Jose Aldo is coming off the biggest loss of his career, and now he wants his revenge. By now, everyone knows that Conor McGregor beat Aldo in 13 seconds at UFC 194 in the main event to become the undisputed UFC featherweight champion. Aldo was devastated by this loss as it was his first loss in ten years.
Following the fight, Aldo explained in his post-fight interview (transcribed by MMA Junkie) that a rematch with McGregor only makes sense.
“He threw a straight to my chest, I was expecting it, and when I went to attack him, he hit a good straight. I think this fight here, I think now we have to go to a rematch. I think it doesn’t end there. I think it was very fast there. He hit a good blow and was able to finish the fight.”
Aldo (25-2) is currently on a one-fight winning streak. UFC 194 took place on December 12th at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. This event aired on pay-per-view, FOX Sports 1, and UFC Fight Pass.
Aldo said that the trash talk by Mcgregor leading up to the fight did not affect him going into the fight. He had a clear head going into the fight and was planning to get the win. However, Aldo admits that he was caught, and it was not his fight, but vows to reclaim what is his.
“It didn’t affect me in any way, man; he may have spoken whatever. I never fall for provocations, I stay with a clear head (calm mind) in there, man. I have to get in there and do my job. He was happy tonight, landed a good blow. I think we have to go on to the next now. Now I’m waiting for the rematch there, and if it’s God’s will on the next one, I’ll be much more trained, and I will reclaim what is mine.”
Aldo took time to thank his fans and those in Brazil for their support.
“Thank you guys from Brazil. Thank you a lot for the support (and) the positive energy from everyone. This is part (of it). It’s a sport. We lost the battle today, but if it’s God’s will, we lost the battle, not the war. If it’s God’s will, I’ll come back stronger and conquer (the belt) for you. Thank you very much for all your support. Thank you guys, a big hug. Be with God (may God be with you).”
McGregor is expected to move up to lightweight and fight the winner of Rafael Dos Anjos – Donald Cerrone at UFC on FOX 17 or will fight Frank Edgar at featherweight. Either way, Aldo will be waiting several months for his rematch.
