Jose Aldo vs. Frankie Edgar set for Super Bowl Weekend in Las Vegas

After an injury to Jose Aldo shut down a title fight with Frankie Edgar in Brazil at UFC 153, the UFC has set the stage for the two to meet at UFC 156 in Las Vegas on February 2nd as part of the UFC’s long running Super Bowl weekend event. The announcement was made on FUEL TV’s “UFC Tonight.”

Aldo (21-1) has completely wiped out the competition since claiming the then-WEC title in 2009. Victories over the likes of Mike Brown, Chad Mendes, Kenny Florian and Mark Hominick have many suggesting that Aldo belongs in the #1 pound-for-pound fighter in the world conversation. His stiffest competition will certainly come by way of Edgar (14-3-1), who is dropping down in weight after being upended by Benson Henderson twice. The former UFC lightweight champion was always undersized against his competition and it was long suggested that he move down in weight. Edgar finally made the move and was immediately awarded a title shot against Aldo after Erik Koch went down with an injury.

However, Aldo would also be injured and removed from the card. Fortunately for fight fans, this highly anticipated showdown has been rescheduled for February as Edgar looks to join BJ Penn and Randy Couture as the only fighters who have held UFC titles in two different divisions.
