Jose Aldo vs Conor McGregor Postponed Until Mid-Summer

ufc 179 Jose aldo vs conor mcgregor

Jose Aldo vs Conor McGregor was a dead certain after UFC Fight Night 59 last week (January 18th, 2015) as the Irish sensation blasted Dennis Siver in the evening’s co-main event. “The Notorious” rushed in to the crowd and got in the champion’s face after the second round TKO finish, laying the path for a rivalry to their eventual meeting.

Memorial day weekend in May was being kicked around as the date for Jose Aldo vs Conor McGregor, but now SBG head coach John Kavanagh tells News Talk Breakfast, via MMAfighting.com, that the fight has been moved back:

“It’s not 100-percent yet. There was talk of a May date. It may now actually be later in the year, I get a lot of tweets and messages, people wanting to book their flights. I would just say hold on, hold on until the UFC officially announces. But it does look like it’ll be later in the year, mid-summer.”

So it looks like the featherweight division will be held up at the top, but perhaps that’s not the worst thing for the rest of the contenders at 145 pounds. Frankie Edgar will probably be a little sore about it, but he and the rest of the top five (aside from McGregor) have already had at least one shot at the champion. Maybe this will shake the division up a little.

As for fans of Jose Aldo vs Conor McGregor, this pretty much sucks. The 145-pound boss recently put in a top quality five-round battle with his old nemesis Chad Mendes, in what has been dubbed the ‘greatest featherweight title fight ever’. Lets just hope this is the only hurdle “The Notorious” and “Scarface” have to overcome.
