Jose Aldo: Dana White Offered Me More Money To Avoid Fighter’s Union
Interim UFC featherweight champion Jose Aldo and the promotion are not in a good standing as of right now, as the Brazilian champion is calling for the termination of his contract after being denied his rematch with 145-pound champion Conor McGregor to unify the two titles.
McGregor will instead be challenging for his second title when he takes on Eddie Alvarez in the main event of UFC 205 for the lightweight title. Aldo, who is hoping to be released of his UFC contract in order to pursue other interests, recently sat down for a media scrum in Rio de Janeiro on Wednesday to discuss his issues with the UFC.
Aldo has always been a strong advocate for a fighter’s union over the past few years he’s been with the promotion, however, he revealed that UFC President Dana White told the ‘Scarface’ that he would receive a ‘bigger slice of the cake’ if he avoided a union:
“Not only now that I’m the one being affected, but I always talked about it and defended better things for Brazilian athletes,” Aldo said (courtesy of MMA Fighting). “In a conversation, Dana himself came and told me not to take anyone’s sides because the cake would be split the same for everyone, but I could get a bigger slice if I stayed quiet.”
Aldo believes fighters should have established a union a long time ago, bashing his fellow athletes for being ‘disunited’. The interim 145-pound champ also stated that a union would play in favor to his fellow Brazilian fighters as well:
“We should have that a long time ago already,” Aldo said. “Pepper in other’s a** is refreshment. When everyone can talk, nobody does, but when you feel it yourself… I think our class is disorganized, disunited. If we were more united, it would be better, for sure. Nobody would do what they want with us.
“Today, they pay two, five, 10 thousand to fight in the UFC. This class is f**king disunited. It would be completely different for Brazilians if we were more united, not only in MMA.”
