Jorge Masvidal on Potential Max Holloway Fight: “We’d put on a f*cking epic show.”
Jorge Masvidal, the inaugural BMF champion, took interest in a potential showdown with current BMF champion Max Holloway. Holloway is currently set to challenge Ilia Topuria this weekend at UFC 308 in Abu Dhabi in hopes of becoming a two-time featherweight champion.
In a recent interview ‘Gamebred’ praised Max Holloway and his fighting style while also entertaining a potential fight with the Hawaiian. Masvidal last fought in the UFC in April 2023 losing to Gilbert Burns via decision.
Masvidal praises holloway, entertains fight
Jorge Masvidal, who won the very first BMF belt would be willing to fight current BMF champion and featherweight title challenger, Max Holloway. Masvidal also praised Holloway stating, “I’m the biggest Max fan also..I love this guy. I love how he fights. I love his style. I love how he carries himself outside of the ring. One of my favorite all-time fighters,” said Masvidal.
Masvidal also talked about sharing the octagon with Holloway and how they’d put on a show. “It would be an honor and we could throw down. We’d put on a f*cking epic show. One of those fights for all the generations, all lifetime. I wouldn’t mind that,” said the former BMF champion.
Would Masvidal vs Holloway make sense?
While Holloway is set to challenge for the featherweight gold this weekend, would it make sense for him to fight Jorge Masvidal? Masvidal hasn’t won a UFC fight since he claimed the BMF belt via doctor’s stoppage against Nate Diaz in 2019. He also lost to Diaz in a boxing match in July of this year. Meanwhile, Holloway is coming off one of the craziest KO wins in UFC history against Justin Gaethje at UFC 300.
‘Blessed’ is one of the most exciting fighters in the sport and is currently a huge name. If he defeats Topuria this weekend a fight between him and Masvidal almost certainly wouldn’t make any sense. If he loses though, a BMF vs BMF matchup would be something that can interest the fans.
As of now, Holloway will be focused on reclaiming the featherweight belt while Jorge Masvidal mulls his options in returning to the octagon.
