Jorge Masvidal: Nick Diaz & Conor McGregor Fights Come First
Jorge Masvidal has his eyes on the biggest money fight possible. Of course, names like Conor McGregor and Nick Diaz would give “Gamebred” exactly what he’s looking for.
Masvidal comes off a third-round TKO win over Nate Diaz at UFC 244 due to a Doctor Stoppage. Shortly after, Masvidal was called out by Nate’s older brother, Nick, who hasn’t fought since 2015. Also, a fight with McGregor down the line has been teased as well. Of course, he could also challenge the winner of Kamaru Usman vs. Colby Covington for the welterweight title at UFC 245.
However, speaking to Yahoo! Sports’ Kevin Iole, Masvidal confirmed fights against Nick Diaz and McGregor are at the top of his list – simply because of the paychecks they bring. (H/T TheScoreMMA)
“Obviously, those fights (with Diaz or McGregor) come first because of the paycheck and everything it brings while these guys are settling the dust between the hugging championships,” Masvidal said.
In regards to the Nick Diaz matchup, specifically, Masvidal welcomes the matchup if it truly motivates Nick to make his return. The oldest Diaz brother hasn’t fought since 2015 when he suffered a unanimous decision loss to Anderson Silva, which was later ruled a No Contest.
“If (Diaz has) ever been motivated for a fight, I think it’s going to be this one,” Masvidal said. “I think whatever he’s been doing in the past, he’ll cut it and he’ll get into his ways of fighting. Knowing the Diaz brothers and how much they got love and respect for each other, I know that guy’s going to come with everything he has.”
What do you think about Masvidal prioritizing fights with Diaz and McGregor first?
