Jonathan Brookins wins TUF 12, defeats Michael Johnson by unanimous decision
Jonathan Brookins defeated Michael Johnson in an action packed bout that saw both fighters leave everything inside the cage. In a series filled with Lightweight talent, both Michael Johnson and Jonathan Brookins rose to the top of the series, with both being coached by Georges St. Pierre. A win for Brookins now means he is the most recently crowned Ultimate Fighter, and the recipiant of the fabled six figure contract, with a bright future ahead. But with the loss for Johnson , a rosy future is still very possible, after battling his way to the final two of the show.
Round 1
Johnson lands a few heavy shots early, as Brookins remains composed by grabbing a single leg on the cage. Johnsons pushes off, landing some big shots. Johnson drops Brookins with some heavy shots, working his ground and pound, but Brookins stays calm. Johnson’s stand up looks very dangerous, Brookins is out of his comfort zone. Again Johnson hits hard, looking for a TKO. Brookins is under big pressure. The two scramble to the mat as Brookins looks for the back as expected. A clear 10-9 for Johnson
Round 2
Brookins takes centre of the cage, as he gets the fight to the mat, landing some big shots on the ground. Brookins looks comfortable as he controls things while dropping bombs. Brookins is trying to work a crucifix, dropping heavy elbows. This round is a total departure from the last, as Brookins is dictating the fight, coming close to a finish. Johnson gets it back to the feet, but Brookins is trying to get it back down. Johnson throws some big elbows from a sprawl position. Brookins lands a very impressive single leg takedown. Brookins is looking for a Kimura from top half guard as the round ends. Possibly 10-8 Brookins
Round 3
Final round as both touch gloves. Brookins again grabs the single leg, rushing Johnson to the cage as he finishes the takedown. Brookins is again dominating this round, as he works a full mount against the cage. Johnson with a perfect sweep as they trade, but Brookins drags his opponent straight back to the mat. Brookins is dominating, as he drops big elbows from the top. The fight ends with Brookins on top. Another 10-9 for Brookins. The fight goes to the score cards, I call it 29-27, and the judges have it 29-28, 29-28 and 29-27 as Brookins wins.
