Jon Fitch Will Welcome Marcelo Alfaya At WSOF 6

Jon Fitch’s fall from grace in the world of MMA has been quite a dramatic one; first he was cut from the UFC while in the top ten of the WW division, he then proceeded to publicly trash UFC fighter pay (likely sealing his exile from the organization) and then debuted in WSOF with a first round submission loss.5615975742 34a71a810a b

Until being cut earlier this year, Fitch had amassed a 14-3-1 UFC record consisting of four finishes and ten decision wins. Fitch had troubles and was cut from the UFC once before following a dispute with Zuffa over likeness rights. The final reason for Fitch’s second dismissal was he wasn’t worth what the UFC paid him, and his WSOF debut may be evidence of that.

That being said, anything can happen in MMA and I would probably chalk it up to a bad day at the races, along with some rookie mistakes too. If Fitch wants to make something out of this MMA thing, he needs to act fast; 35 is quite a ripe old age in terms of pro MMA, and he could already be in his twilight years for competing.

Fitch will look to get back to winning ways at WSOF when he faces his next opponent Marcelo Alfaya. The October 26th event will feature a headlining bout between Josh Burkman and Steve Carl for the first WSOF Welterweight strap.

Alfaya comes to WSOF sporting a 15-6 (1) record; his most notable fight to date was a KO loss to Jake Ellenberger in Bellator 11. Since then Alfaya has racked up three wins on the regional circuit and will look to spoil the party against Fitch.

This isn’t an easy fight for Fitch, Alfaya is an ATT/Team Nogueira product and has heavy hands with good ground skills. This will be a good test to see if Fitch has anything left in the tank. After such a long career in the UFC, and the big names he has beaten; if he can’t win this time then it may be time to call it quits.

Quite often bashed for his boring style, Fitch needs to become better rounded as a fighter. Not only for fans but to be able to survive in such a dynamic sport. Being able to wrestle is a great base for a MMA fighter, but you can’t just rely on that; especially if everyone knows that is your go to technique.

He needs to take a page out of Johny Hendricks’ book and start fighting with some cajones.
