Jon Fitch: I’m Going To Show Everybody What I’m Capable Of

Jon Fitch has a pro MMA record of 24-5-1 (1 NC), a great resume when you consider that his UFC record is 14-3-1. For a long time Fitch was the number one contender of the UFC‘s Welterweight28 Jon Fitch division, and the only man to beat Fitch between 2005-2010 was GSP. Many people were surprised when Fitch was cut after going 1-2-1 in his most recent UFC appearances. It appears that Jon Fitch was not surprised at all though.

J-Fit spoke to Bleacherreport.com regarding his new home at WSOF and his dealings with the UFC:

“There wasn’t a fight I went into where I didn’t feel as if I was fighting for my job. If I didn’t win I was going to be fired. Every fight I had before was not just a fight against the guy in front of me but a fight against the people putting on the show.”

Fitch is set to face Josh Burkman, in a rematch of the 2006 meeting which Fitch won by submission. It seems as though his experience with the UFC may have given J-Fit a new desire to fight.

“I’m going to show everybody what I’m capable of,” Fitch told Bleacher Report. “And I’m going to show everybody what I’m capable of with support behind me. It’s going to be really nice to fight for an organization that is pushing and promoting me instead of trying to hold me back and put me down.”

The fight against Burkman at WSOF 3 on June 14th will serve as a litmus test. Josh Burkman has won three fights on the bounce, all against UFC veterans, and most recently knocked out Aaron Simpson in one round at WSOF 2. Fitch will look to prove he is still one of the top 170lb. fighters, while a win for Burkman could see him once again UFC bound.
