Jon Jones refuses to do interview amid Tom Aspinall questions: 'It's nothing personal'

Ahead of his UFC 309 title fight, Jon Jones has refused to carry out media obligations with the British branch of TNT Sports – claiming the sit down would just be an “(Tom) Aspinall fest” of questions posed to him.

Jones, a former undisputed light heavyweight champion twice under the banner of the UFC, will make his comeback this weekend at Madison Square Garden, defending his heavyweight throne in a main event clash against the former champion, Stipe Miocic.

Out of action since March of last year, Jones most recently landed the vacant heavyweight crown with an impressive first round win over Ciryl Gane – submitting the Frenchman with a stunning guillotine choke submission win.

And remaining adamant that he will not entertain a fight with Aspinall should he defeat the returning Miocic this weekend in New York, Jones described the current interim champion and his fans as “assholes” during his media availability this week.

“If I’m being completely honest, I feel like Tom’s (Aspinall) been such an asshole that I don’t want to do business with him,” Jon Jones told assembled media.

“His fans have been so annoying and obviously you don’t get this far in a career being affected by fans or whatnot, but he’s just an asshole,” Jon Jones explained.

Rather than land a title unification pairing with Aspinall should he beat Miocic this weekend, Jones has welcomed the chance to take on Brazilian star, Alex Pereira in a symbolic BMF title fight – or even former champion, Jamahal Hill, and knockout artist, Derrick Lewis instead.
