Jon Jones Helping Train Holly Holm To Fight Ronda Rousey
Since being suspended from the UFC, Jon Jones hasn’t done any interviews and has stayed out of the public eye. Which, honestly is the best thing for him to do at this moment in time. Holly Holm‘s coach, Brandon Gibson, stated in a recent interview that Jones has been helping train Holm leading up to her upcoming title fight with Ronda Rousey at UFC 193.
“He’s been helping Holly Holm a ton,” Gibson told MMA Fighting at UFC 191 media day Thursday. “Jon is a leader and he inspires the team and we just try to do the same for him. We try to inspire him wherever we can. He’s getting stronger every day.”
“Jon is very creative and [Mike] Winkeljohn has been grooming Holly since she was a teenager,” Gibson said. “Him and Greg [Jackson] and Coach Izzy [Martinez] have put in a lot of work with Holly. I think Jon just brings a different perspective and a different view, whether it’s technically or the mental aspect of it, to help prepare our sister for this championship fight and to take this title.”
Jones was stripped of that title following a car accident that involved him running a red light and crashing into a pregnant lady that resulted in breaking her arm. He now faces some serious legal charges for that. The UFC had to suspend Jones as well.
Gibson also revealed that Jones helped Andrei Arlovski prior to UFC 187 in his fight with Travis Browne just weeks after Jones was suspended.
“He helped Andrei a lot for the Travis Browne fight,” Gibson said. “That was kind of after he got in trouble and he would still go in there.”
Holm will attempt to become the new bantamweight champion at UFC 193 on November 14th at the Etihad Stadium in Melbourne, Australia.
