Jon Jones Brutally Owns Daniel Cormier At UFC Press Conference

The anticipated light heavyweight title rematch between champion Daniel Cormier and former champion Jon Jones at April 23’s UFC 197 most likely didn’t need any more hype, but it certainly got just that at yesterday’s (Fri., March 4, 2016) UFC: Unstoppable press conference in Las Vegas.

Following over a year of bad blood leading up to and after their first match-up at UFC 182 in January 2015, which Jones won by unanimous decision, beef was inevitable at the stacked media event, and Cormier got the ball rolling when he was asked if he found it disrespectful that Jones had brought his own belt to the press conference. ‘DC’ responded that he did, but the real dynamic of it was that Jones hadn’t learned anything during his year off due to repeated problems with drugs and alcohol:

“Yeah, I do. I think when you, you know, people, you know, they cheer him. Absence makes the heart grow fonder, but I think it’s a testament to his mental. It shows how disrespectful to come out here with that belt; it shows that he thinks there are no repercussions for his actions. That’s why he’s up here with that title. If he understood his issues, he would not do that, he would respect what he lost because of his actions outside. But there is no change on that young man; he’s doing the same type of shit. He’s doing the same thing, he will continue.”

As the consumate heel, Jones responded that his old feelings towards Cormier didn’t get to him anymore, as his fight with the champ was more about proving that he could rise up from the hit-and-run charges that resulted in him being on probation:

“You know, honestly, they’re not at this point, you know, right now. I’m on a mission to prove to the world that you can get back on your feet after almost anything if you don’t give up on yourself; you know, that its all about continuing to fight. I know in order to prove that, defeating Daniel Cormier is gonna be a big part of that. So, I have no reason to not like him right now, I took his undefeated record, I’m gonna take his belt – I’m gonna take my belt back – and I got no problem with him.”

‘Bones’ painted the picture that he has no animosity towards ‘DC’ whatsoever, but Cormier told an entirely different story in response, noting that Jones actually told him some rather choice words backstage before the show.

That’s when the smack talk picked up in a big way.

Opening up about Jones’ supposedly fake personality, ‘DC’ said that Jones did quite the opposite and called him quite the colorful name not long before they appeared onstage:

“Guys, for the record, an hour ago, Jon called me the “lamest, biggest pussy” he had ever met in his entire life. So I mean, an hour ago, he said, ‘you are the ‘lamest, biggest pussy I have ever met in my entire life,’ so believe it, believe if you want, but he’s lying to you again.”

Jones continued to act like he could not hear Cormier, asking UFC President Dana White, “What’d he say?”

By that moment Cormier had enough, getting a bit heated and asking Jones about his inconsistent attitude:

“Am I the biggest lying pussy you’ve ever met? Am I the biggest pussy you have ever met and you want me to suck your dick like you told me? Is that what you told me? Is this not real now? Are we pretending again? I said are we pretending again? Are we pretending; are we doing this fairy tale shit again?”

Jones then dropped the sentiment that he had nothing against Cormier, reassuring him that he was indeed the biggest version of the insult he supposedly hurled at him earlier:

“Oh no, you are the biggest pussy I’ve ever seen, for sure.”

Cormier asked if that was real or fake at that point:

“Okay. Are we pretending again, because I know what you said to me over here.”

Jones continued digging into Cormier with a brutal suggestion that drew a big reaction from the crowd:

“Oh, that you’re a pussy, that you’re forever going to be my pussy.”

Cormier seemed to laugh it off at that point, instead acknowledging that at least Jones was finally being honest instead of hiding his true feelings:

“And also that I’m forever going to be your pussy. Okay, we’ll see. I like it, Jon, but I like it, but I want you to actually be honest with these people like you are with me. That’s all I want.”

Finally Jones closed by admitting he did have a different mindset going into the rematch, as last time he was fighting to merely win, and now he’s fighting to do some real damage:

“You know last time I was just fighting to win; this time I’m fighting to kick his ass.”

The emotional exchange lead to a staredown where the fighters understandably had to be separated by White, which was punctuated by a ‘Degeneration X’ crotch chop from ‘Bones’ at the end. Watch it right here via MMA Fighting:
