Stipe Miocic stunned former champion Fabricio Werdum in his hometown of Curitiba, Brazil over a week ago in the main event of UFC 198, ending the Brazilian’s night and title reign early, with a right hand that sent ‘Vai Cavalo’ into a temporary slumber.

After dropping the title to Miocic, Werdum called for an immediate rematch, however it seems the UFC might want to go in a different direction, possibly pitting the surging Dutch contender Alistair Overeem against the new Croatian champ.

If that is to be the case, No. 4-Ranked heavyweight Junior dos Santos is putting his money on Miocic.

DosSantosPressConferenceIn a recent interview on The MMA Hour this past Monday, ‘JDS’ suggested Overeem simply doesn’t ‘have what it takes’ to defeat the new champ:

“If it happens, I’m going to give the advantage to Miocic again over Overeem,” dos Santos said. “I don’t think Overeem has what it takes to beat Miocic.

Miocic is really hard. Do you remember my fight against him, against Miocic? It was one of the toughest fights I’ve ever had. He hits very hard.

He’s got really heavy hands, so I think when I watch Miocic fight and Overeem fight, I think Miocic is way better than him.”

“[Overeem] did very well against a very tough guy, Arlovski,” he said. “Actually, Overeem is coming from very good moments. He beat me, he beat Arlovski now, so he’s doing very well. But like I said, I give the advantage to Miocic.

“But you never know. It’s MMA. I’m sure Overeem has a lot of chances to be the next champion, but I think it’s going to be hard for him.”

‘JDS’ also commented on his loss to his longtime rival Overeem, and his desire for a rematch:

alistair overeem“That was something I have no words to explain, because that was hard,” dos Santos said. “That was hard for me. I’m not saying that he’s not good, that he doesn’t deserve it. He deserved the victory.

He won the fight. He was better than me. But man, even watching this fight now against Arlovski, sometimes I say ‘how did I lose to that guy?’

But you know, I think it’s part of the thing. I’m not being disrespectful to him. He’s been fighting for a long, long time. But man, it would be great to have this rematch.”

While ‘JDS’, Overeem, and Miocic all await their next respective bouts, a matchup between Miocic and Overeem in expected to be next. It looks like ‘Cigano’ is picking Miocic without hesitation, do you agree?
