JDS says Cain Velasquez will be knocked out again; Overeem doesn’t deserve title shot

UFC Heavyweight champion Junior dos Santos has always been a fighter known for letting his hands do his talking for him. He is regarded as a somewhat quiet, respectful, and calm champion. However, with the absolute hoopla that his canceled bout with Alistair Overeem has gained, dos Santos has suddenly become more vocal about his desire to knock the Dutch kickboxer out cold due to his incessant trash talk. Now, dos Santos has some words about the man who will be next opponent at UFC 155, former champion Cain Velasquez:

“I think considering me as the first heavyweight in the world, I think Cain is the second one for sure, at this time. I want to fight with the best fighters in the world, Cain Velasquez for sure will give me his best. I love to knock out people, I would love to do it again. He is pretty good on his feet, but, if he accepts to fight standing with me again he’s going to get knocked out again.” – via MMAFighting.com

He shows respect for Velasquez at first, who was reported earlier this week to have been suffering from a serious knee injury prior to the first-ever UFC fight on Fox last year, a bout which dos Santos first won the belt with a 64-second knockout. But dos Santos was under the pain of a knee injury himself, having been on crutches a mere ten days before the bout took place. JDS heads into the rematch confident that he can KO Velasquez again, and he has no reason not to. His focus then shifted to the always polarizing Overeem and his quest to become champion:

“I don’t think he deserves it. He just failed a drug test. That’s bad, that’s very bad for the title. But I want to fight him. That’s different. I don’t think he deserves to fight for the title, but I want to beat him, because he said a lot of … he lied. He lied. I want that fight. I would enjoy to fight with him. But it doesn’t mean he deserves to fight for the title. What’s important now is Cain Velasquez.”

JDS versus Overeem would feature arguably the most powerful strikers in all of MMA. There is no doubt it will happen at some point in the future, but at this point, JDS remains focused on beating Cain Velasquez for a second time.
