James 'The Sandman' Irvin will return at Light-Heavyweight.

Recent times have not been good to James ‘The Sandman’ Irvin in the octagon. He looked terrible in his most recent bout, against Alessio Sakara at UFC on Versus 1. Obviously undernurished and weak, Irvin lost by TKO after taking a clean knuckle to the eye. We all remember what Anderson Silva did to him at UFN 14 and a bad knee injury against Thiago Silva saw Irvin out of action for six months back in 2007.

All this being said things might change with the latest news that Irvin is being given another chance by UFC president Dana White. After seeing Irvin’s poor performance against Sakara, White said that Irvin would have to move up in weight if he wanted to compete in the UFC again. True to his word, it seems, Dana White has allegedly set up a match between Irvin and Cro Cop student Igor Pokrajac in the LHW division.

The fight is rumored to take place at UFC on Versus 2, which will also host Yushin Okami vs Mark Munoz (!!). Igor, who’s record stands at 21-7 has built up an unimpressive UFC record of 0-2. With Irvin’s last win coming two years ago we should see a battle for survival in the organization and hopefully it will be a great battle. I personally would like to see Irvin back to full fitness and putting fighters to sleep.
