Jacare: Weidman Has Lost To Brazilians & He Will Lose To Me Too
No. 2-ranked UFC middleweight Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza is arguably deserving of a title shot right now, as he has strung together eight-straight wins including five in the UFC, and he has also scored four Octagon finishes.
However, No. 1-ranked Luke Rockhold, who defeated “Jacare” back in 2011, is scheduled to take on reigning champion Chris Weidman at December 12’s UFC 194, and Souza is set to face off with fellow top contender Yoel “The Soldier of God” Romero at UFC 194 as well.
Souza was scheduled to take on Romero twice in recent memory, both times being hindered by injuries, and it seems as if the Brazilian is getting frustrated, noting that it always seems as if he’s one fight away from a title shot, and ends up not getting it. However, as he spoke with Sportv, “Jacare” said that he’ll be ready, and that he’ll impress everyone:
“It seems I’m always one fight away from the title fight. It’s funny, I fought Mousasi and that was supposed to be a title eliminator. Then I was going to fight Romero and he got hurt, but a month later he was fighting Lyoto, which I thought was weird. But I’ll be ready, I’ll do some great work and I’ll impress everybody.”
If he does indeed get passed Romero, Souza should undoubtedly get a title shot. Speaking on who he would like to face, the Brazilian has reasons for wanting to face both Weidman and Rockhold. Of course he would still like to avenge his loss to Rockhold, and it also seems as if “Jacare” is not happy with the champion’s “Brazilian Killer” nick name of sorts.
Weidman has taken out multiple Brazilian legends in Anderson Silva, Lyoto Machida, and Vitor Belfort, but Souza recalls a few Brazilians who have beat Weidman in the grappling circuit. “Jacare” also claims that he will beat Weidman:
“Both are about the same to me. Rockhold stole my Strikeforce belt, so I still have that stuck in my throat. Weidman has this whole ‘Brazilian Killer’ thing, which I don’t buy. Vinny Magalhaes finished him with a flying armbar and he lost to Andre Galvao at ADCC. And he will lose to me, as well.”
Will “Jacare” get by Romero and finally earn his UFC title shot?
