Israel Adesanya: UFC Title ‘Just A Belt That Looks Good On Black Skin’

Israel Adesanya is on a quest to prove that he is the best middleweight in the world.

One accomplishes that by winning the 185-pound title in the UFC. However, according to “The Last Stylebender,” winning UFC gold doesn’t hold too much weight in the eyes of Adesanya. To him, it’s just a piece of gold that ‘looks good on black skin’ (via MMA Fighting):

“I’ve said this on record,” Adesanya said. “F*ck the belt. It’s just a trinket you collect along the way. At least when it’s said and done, I can say I was an interim champion and the unified champion as well.

“Everything just makes for a good story so I’m not really flustered about interim or real. It’s just a belt. It looks looks good on black skin. I wear gold all of the time. I collect gold like a magpie.

“A magpie is a bird that collects shiny things. It’s a black and white bird and they like shiny things.”

Adesanya will co-main event UFC 236 on pay-per-view (PPV) against Kelvin Gastelum. The pair will contest for the interim middleweight championship. The action goes down from the State Farm Arena in Atlanta, Georgia, on April 13, 2019.

The winner will likely be unifying their title with undisputed champ Robert Whittaker once he’s healthy enough to return.
