Israel Adesanya Confirms UFC 243 Fight With Robert Whittaker Will ‘Definitely’ Be In Australia
Israel Adesanya confirmed his middleweight title unification fight with Robert Whittaker at UFC 243 would take place in Australia.
The highly-awaited bout was finally made official last week, however, oddly, no venue was confirmed for the event. UFC president Dana White later claimed there was no news on that front, but did not rule out the possibility of the fight taking place in the United States.
However, according to “The Last Stylebender,” it is “definitely” taking place in Australia as opposed to Las Vegas:
“Definitely. It’s not in America,” Adesanya said on Ariel Helwani’s MMA Show on Monday. “It’s a silly notion if they even decide to have it in America because duh, do you hate money? Yeah, it’s going to be in Australia, definitely.
“I have an idea [where in Australia]. This is a big fight so a lot of people want to have this fight in their stadium or in their neck of the woods. …I have no idea where it’s going to be. Definitely [in a stadium], we’re going to sell it out. It’s going to be big.”
There were previous reports that the event could take place at Melbourne’s 55,000-seater Marvel Stadium. We’ll just have to wait and see for now.
