Invicta FC 23 Results: Agnieszka Niedźwiedź Decisions Vanessa Porto
It’s once again fight day here at LowKickMMA, and the talent on display tonight (Saturday, May 20th, 2017) will come in the form of Invicta FC 23. Headlining the card are Vanessa Porto and Agnieszka Niedźwiedź, but there’s a whole bunch of great fights also taking place on the rest of the main card.
Vanessa Porto and Agnieszka Niedźwiedź met in a flyweight bout in the main event. In round 1, after having a feeling out process, Niedźwiedź scored a takedown midway through the round but Porto scrambled to her feet and took Niedźwiedź down. Porto had half guard but Niedźwiedź locked in a guillotine choke. Porto got out of it. Niedźwiedź scrambled and got on top and landed a series of strikes to end the round. In round 2, Porto took her down midway through the round and got half guard. Niedźwiedź went for a triangle choke off her back but Porto got out of it. In round 3, both fighters slowed down in this round. Porto was landing some solid leg kicks that were very effective. Niedźwiedź scored a late round takedown and got guard. Porto scrambled to her feet. They had a good exchange to the bell. The judges gave the win to Niedźwiedź by unanimous decision.
Roxanne Modafferi and Sarah D’Alelio met in a flyweight bout in the co-main event. In round 1, D’Alelio dropped her right out of the gate with a right hand. Modafferi got back to her feet and tried to recover. Modafferi scored a takedown midway through the round and got a guard. D’Alelio landed a series of elbows off her back. Modafferi got her back and was looking for a choke, but D’Alelio scrambled and got on top. Modafferi went for an armbar, but D’Alelio power slammed her way out of it. Modafferi went for it again but D’Alelio power slammed her away out of it again. In round 2, Modafferi took her down to begin the round and just went off on her with strikes. Modafferi got back mount and kept up the onslaught. Modafferi went for an armbar, but D’Alelio got out of it. Modafferi got back mount and continued to land some bombs. In round 3, Modafferi went right after her and landed a series of right hands. Modafferi scored a takedown and got full mount. Modafferi landed some big bombs to end the fight. D’Alelio was bleeding heavily.
Herica Tiburcio vs. Tessa Simpson is next in an atomweight bout. In round 1, Simpson grabbed a single leg and took her down. Tiburcio got back to her feet, and Simpson clinched with her up against the fence. Tiburcio scored a takedown and got guard in top position. Simpson scrambled to her feet and took Tiburcio down to end the round. In round 2, after exchanging for the first part of this round, Simpson clinched with her and pressed her up against the fence. Simpson took her down and worked her over with several strikes. Tiburcio locked in a guillotine choke, but Simpson got out of it. In round 3, Tiburcio scored a takedown and worked her over with strikes. Simpson got back to her feet but moments later was takedown by Tiburcio again. Tiburcio picked up the split decision win.
Elizabeth Phillips vs. Kelly Faszholz is next in a bantamweight bout. In round 1, hard right hand landed by Faszholz. Phillips attempts a hip toss takedown, but both fighters scramble back to their feet. Faszholz clinched with her up against the fence and landed some knee strikes. In round 2, Phillips worked throughout the round to get a takedown, but she was having a hard time doing so. They had a nice exchange to end the round. In round 3, Faszholz was bleeding from her nose. Faszholz was looking to counter strike and Phillips pressed forward mixing up her strikes. Kelly Faszholz picked up the decision win.
Andrea Lee vs. Liz Tracy is next in a flyweight bout. In round 1, Lee came out and clinched with her. Lee landed a series of knees from the position then took her down and landed some big shots. Tracy got to her feet, but Lee kept with the clinch and landed some more knees. Tracy took her down again and worked her with strikes from half guard. Lee scrambled to her feet, and they exchanged strikes. Lee took her down and got back mount with two minutes to go. Tracy scrambled and got top position as Lee went for an armbar. In round 2, Lee’s mouthpiece came out to begin the round as they were striking. Tracy shot for a takedown, but it was stuffed. Tracy clinched with her up against the fence. Lee scored a takedown and worked her over with strikes. In round 3, Lee went for a standing guillotine, but Tracy got out of it and took her down. Lee scrambled to her feet, but Tracy scored another takedown late in the round and got side control. Lee picked up the split decision win.
Ediane Gomes vs. Pam Sorenson is next in a featherweight bout. In round 1, Gomes took her down right out of the gate and got guard on top. Gomes worked her over with strikes and elbows. Gomes passed to back mount, but Sorenson scrambled to top position in guard to end the round In round 2, both girls came out throwing bombs, and Sorenson caught her with some good shots. Gomes clinched with her up against the fence. Gomes landed some good combos and scored a takedown midway through the round. Gomes had guard and worked her over with strikes. They were stood up with two minutes to go. They exchanged to the bell. In round 3, the pace of this fight slowed down in this round as the two fighters kept the fight on the feet and slugged it out. Sorenson scored a takedown with seconds left in the round but then stood up, and they exchanged to end the round. The judges gave the split decision win to Gomes.
Tiffany Van Soest vs. Christine Ferea is next in a strawweight bout. In round 1, they exchanged throughout the entire round. Ferea clinched early in the round and landed an elbow. Soest was mixing things up with kicks and trying to keep her off balance. Ferea continued to press forward and get the action going. Ferea seemed to have issues finding her range. In round 2, Soest kept back peddling but this forced Ferea to mix up her strikes, and she started throwing kicks. Soest clinched with her up against the fence midway through the round. They separated and Ferea slipped but got to her feet. They exchanged to end the round. In round 3, Soest scored a takedown and got her back early in the ring. Ferea scrambled and got guard on top. Fera worked her over with strikes. Ferea got side control and worked her over with strikes. Fera got full mount and rained down strikes to end the round. The judges gave the unanimous decision win to Soest.
Opening the card on UFC Fight Pass is Shaianna Rincon vs. Brooksie Bayard in a bantamweight bout. In round 1, Bayard clinched and pressed her up against the fence. Rincon scored a takedown and got her back. Rincon went for a rear-naked choke. Bayard scrambled and got guard where she worked her over with strikes from top position. Rincon scrambled to her feet, and they threw haymakers. In round 2, after exchanging early in the round, Bayard clinched with her up against the fence, but Rincon kept throwing jabs to back her away. Rincon went for a takedown midway through the round, but Bayard threw her down to the ground. Rincon got back to her feet, and they exchanged to the bell. In round 3, Rincon was bleeding from her nose. Bayard clinched with her right out of the gate, but Rincon separated. Rincon clinched midway through the round. They exchanged to end the round. The judges gave the unanimous decision win to Rincon.
