Invicta FC 20 Results: Yana Kunitskaya Submits Tonya Evinger

It’s once again fight day here at LowKickMMA, and the talent on display tonight (Friday, November 18th, 2016) will come in the form of Invicta FC 20. Headlining the card are Tonya Evinger and Yana Kunitskaya, but there’s a whole bunch of great fights also taking place on the rest of the main card.

Tonya Evinger and Yana Kunitskaya met in a bantamweight title bout in the main event. This one did not last long at all Evinger took her down within seconds of the round and got side control. Kunitskaya locked in the armbar and Evinger tapped out. Kunitskaya is the new bantamweight champion. This loss snapped Evinger’s nine fight winning streak.

Angela Hill and Kaline Medeiros met in a strawweight title bout in the co-main event. In round 1, Medeiros took her down halfway through the round and got guard. Hill worked for a triangle choke but couldn’t get it. Later in the round, Hill went for the choke again but Medeiros got out of it again. Hill scrambled to her feet with a minute to go. In round 2, Medeiros clinched with her right out of the gate but Hill separated. Hill threw her to the ground but Medeiros got up and took her down. Medeiros went for a guillotine choke but let it go as Hill was fighting to stand up near the fence. Hill separated once more and started to let her hands go. In round 3, Medeiros clinches with her but Hill took her down and got guard early in the round. Medeiros scrambled to her and blasted Hill with a right hook. Medeiros took her down very late in the round and Hill went for a triangle choke off her back but Medeiros stood straight up to end the round. In round 4, Hill started to bust her up with strikes and Medeiros was bleeding from her nose. Medeiros took her down with 30-seconds to go in the round but Hill scrambled and got on top and landed a series of strikes. In round 5, Hill started to turn up the pressure and was just T-ing off on Medeiros. Medeiros slowed down and was tired at this point. Hill was landing her jabs over and over and Medeiros had no answer for it. Hill won the fight by unanimous decision.

Herica Tiburcio and Simona Soukupova met in an atomweight bout. In round 1, Soukupova was pressing early but Tiburcio took her down halfway through the round and got half guard. Soukupova tried to scramble but Tiburcio stayed on her and landed a series of strikes from guard. Soukupova got back to her feet with a minute to go and they exchanged to end the round. In round 2, they kept it standing for the entire round and both girls let their hands go. Tiburcio couldn’t get her range down as she was missing a lot of sweeping shots. In round 3, Tiburcio clinches with her and presses her up against the fence. Souplova landed some stiff knee strikes to the body of Soukupova. Soukupova caught her with some strikes and took her down and went for a triangle choke but the bell sounded. Tiburcio got the decision win. 

Ashley Yoder and Amber Brown met in a strawweight bout. In round 1, Brown took her down right away and got in guard. Brown got mount then half guard and worked her over with strikes. Yoder went for a submission but Brown got out if it. Yoder scrambled and got on top in half guard. In round 2, Brown worked over the legs of Yoder early in the round but this allowed for Yoder to scored a takedown and got half guard on top. Brown scrambled to her feet halfway through the round and clinched right away. Yoder took her down and went for an armbar from mount then landed a series of hammerfist and locked in the armbar again for the win.

Jessica-Rose Clark and Pam Sorenson met in a bantamweight bout. In round 1,  Sorenson opens up with a right hook. Sorenson clinches and puts her up against the fence while landing knee strikes. Sorenson scores a brief takedown but Clark got back to her feet. Sorenson clinched right away and continued to keep the pressure on Clark while up against the fence. Clark separated from her with under two minutes to go and fired away. In round 2, Clark opened up with a takedown and got guard with a minute into the round. Sorenson scrambled and went for an armbar off her back then went for a triangle choke while throwing elbows. Clark defended the submission attempt nicely. Clark scrambled to her feet and they exchanged to the bell. In round 3, Sorenson scored a takedown early in the round and got her back. Clark tried to escape out of the back but Sorenson stayed on her. Clark got on top in guard but Sorenson landed a series of nasty elbows. Sorenson scored the split decision victory.

Lynn Alvarez and J.J. Aldrich met in a strawweight bout. In round 1, both girls came out and started blasting each other. Aldrich clinched with her late in the round and landed a series of knee strikes to the body. In round 2, Alvarez started to let her hands to and was landing some combos. Aldrich stunned her three times in this round with a straight left hand. Aldrich took her down near the end of the round but Alvarez got back to her feet. Aldrich clinched and landed a series of knee strikes. In round 3, Aldrich worked over the right eye of Alvarez and as a result, Alvarez had a nasty cut under her left eye. Aldrich really started to time and land some really solid punches in this round. The judges gave Aldrich the unanimous decision.

Stephanie Egger and Alexa Conners met in a bantamweight bout. In round 1, Conners came out very aggressive and was landing shots. This woke up Egger, who began throwing shots. Conners was mixing up her strikes and kicks nicely. Egger stunned her and got her back and went for a rear-naked choke. Conners got to her feet with under a minute to go and Egger blasted her with knee strikes. Conners recovered. In round 2, Conners came out and backed Egger up against the fence. Conners pressed her with kicks and strikes as Egger covers up. Egger lets her hands go and they had a nice exchange. In round 3, Conners blitzed her late in the round but Eggers mouth piece fell out and the referee put a pause in the action during the flurry. They went the distance. The judges gave Conners the win by split decision.

Opening the event was Miranda Maverick vs. Samantha Diaz in a strawweight bout. This one did not last long at all. They come out a strike then clinch up against the fence. They separated moments later. Maverick clinches with her once more and works her over with strikes. Maverick scored a takedown halfway through the round but Diaz went for an armbar. Maverick got out of it and scrambled and got on the back of Diaz. Maverick locked in a rear-naked choke with a minute to go in the round and Diaz tapped.
