Injuries create changeup to UFC on FX 4
The UFC announced today that Brock Jardine (9-1 MMA, 0-0 UFC) will replace Papy Abedi (8-2 MMA, 0-2 UFC) in a welterweight match against Rick Story (13-5 MMA, 6-3 UFC) on next month’s UFC on FX 4. The irony is that Abedi was a replacement for Rich Attonito (10-5 MMA, 3-2 UFC), who was previously dropped from the card due to injury.
Jardine is making his UFC debut on the strength of a three-fight win streak. Jardine, whose sole career loss came at the hands of “The Ultimate Fighter 14” champion Tony Ferguson, most recently knocked out WEC veteran Blas Avena at a regional show in Utah earlier this month.
Story, on the other hand, is fighting to regain his momentum and may be on the UFC chopping block. He lost his last 2 UFC fights against Charlie Brenneman and Martin Kampmann, both by decision.
Other changes to the card are: Matt Brown (14-11 MMA, 7-5 UFC) will replace Matt Riddle (6-3 MMA, 6-3 UFC) in a welterweight bout against Luis Ramos (19-7 MMA, 0-1 UFC), and Joey Gambino (9-0 MMA, 0-0 UFC) has replaced Jimmy Hettes (10-0 MMA, 2-0 UFC) to make his UFC debut against featherweight Steven Siler (20-9 MMA, 2-0 UFC).
UFC on FX 4 will take place on June 22 at Revel Atlantic City in New Jersey. The main card airs on FX, and FUEL TV will air the preliminary card, on which all three of these fights will take place.
