And linked with a massive title-eliminator clash next against the likes of former-foe, Diego Lopes in a rematch following their contentious battle two years ago, Evloev certainly has sights fixed on a future pairing with Ilia Topuria, claiming he needs to have the Georgian’s “head” on his list of opponents in the near future.
“Ilia (Topuria) has started talking that he’s moving up [to the lightweight division],” Movsar Evloev told MMA Fighting recently. “I don’t know what’s going on. But for me, it doesn’t matter who my next opponent will be. If the champion moves up, he will leave the title, I will get the title, and then I will follow him. lightweight is not too far for me.”
“Even if he moves up, I will take the belt first, because this is my first goal, and then I will go after him, even if he goes to middleweight,” Movsar Evloev warned. “He is not a big guy. I don’t need to cut weight to beat this guy. I need his head on my list.”
Welcoming the chance to make a lightweight climb in the near future to boot, unbeaten finisher, Ilia Topuria namedropped a potential clash with former undisputed divisional champion, Charles Oliveira next — as he chases two-weight champion status in the form of a grudge match with current pound-for-pound best, Islam Makhachev.
