Anticipation Builds as Ilia Topuria Teases An Announcement ‘You Won’t Believe’
Ilia Topuria is teasing something big.
Just a few short weeks ago, Dana White sent fight fans into a frenzy when he announced that Topuria was vacating his featherweight title after just one defense. Citing a struggle to make the 145-pound weight limit, Topuria is expected to move up to lightweight where he’s expected to immediately chase the division’s top prize.
Since then, everyone has been waiting with bated breath to find out when Topuria will fight against, and more importantly, who it’ll be against.
As it turns out, we may not have to wait much longer.
On Thursday, ‘El Matador’ took to social media and suggested that an earth-shattering announcement is imminent.
“When we announce it, you won’t believe it. Get ready,” Topuria wrote on X.

As soon as fans saw the post, speculation ran rampant with many of them surmising that Topuria’s next fight would come against none other than the Irish megastar, Conor McGregor.
As awesome as that would be, don’t bet on it. Instead, the likeliest scenario would see Topuria challenging lightweight titleholder Islam Makhachev sometime in 2025. Perhaps during International Fight Week in June.
Of course, Makhachev isn’t the only intriguing fight waiting for Topuria at 155, but it’s the one that makes the most sense.
